Lately, anytime you turn on the television, pick up a paper, or visit a news site you see ever more shocking and disturbing evidence of the rise of an autocratic state in place of our federal government. Rights enshrined in our most sacred documents are being denied and it can be hard for many of us to connect what's happening to our quiet community. However, we do not have to look to California, or even Detroit to see people who are suffering from the abandonment of our nation's best qualities.

We are no longer discussing possible expiration of enhanced subsidies. These subsidies WILL go away next year. Without even accounting for the cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, etc. there is a paradigm shift on the horizon for our community. We have to get organized to help our neighbors understand what is coming. Further, we have to convince people to vote for the values that they embrace every day in Alcona County. Caring for one another must follow us to the voting booth if we hope to get past this all out assault on our social safety nets.
